Helena Brage, Business Development Manager for Spain at BlueFloat Energy, participated yesterday in the event “Marine Wind: Offshore Wind in Galicia.” Organized by Sener at the Industrial Campus of Ferrol (University of Coruña) in Ferrol, the event addressed the barriers and facilitators for the development of offshore wind technology from socioeconomic, legal, financial, environmental, and technological perspectives.
Helena took part in a roundtable discussion titled “The impact on different sectors, especially the fishing and tourism sectors” with Fabian Ben Conde from the National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds, and Oriol Sarmiento Diez, manager of the Renewable Energy Cluster of Galicia, where she emphasized the significance of floating offshore wind in the industrial, port, and social development for Galicia, noting that “Galicia is a key territory to create a benchmark industry in this sector.” She also highlighted that “recently, the draft of the Royal Decree project has been published, which should lead in Spain to the regulation of the infrastructures for generating electric power located at sea.” In this participation process, Helena stressed the importance of the government considering, from an open perspective, all the peculiarities of the different involved groups. Lastly, Helena underscored “the importance of prior environmental characterization studies, as well as the integration of the territory, particularly the fishing sector, to achieve social agreement.”
