Grid in the UK – a catalyst or constraint?
BlueFloat Energy´s Head of Project Delivery – Bellrock Offshore Wind Project, Derrick MacLeod, spoke last week at the third annual conference on Offshore Wind Transmission UK organised by Global Transmission Report in London about the offshore wind developers´ landscape to meet the UK government’s 50GW offshore wind target by 2030.
BlueFloat Energy has been working with large equipment suppliers and OEMs for a long time now. In the UK, BlueFloat Energy’s portfolio includes a combination of coordinated and developer-led grid solutions, driving the industry’s aspirations to reality. “At BlueFloat Energy, we are at the forefront of developing technologies and solutions to build floating offshore wind at scale. In the UK, this means being active participants in the Holistic Network Design (HND) process, which encourages collaboration among offshore wind developers and Transmission Owners. Bringing online the extraordinary amount of offshore wind capacity in the UK in a coordinated way is challenging. With the right focus and commitment to coordinated solutions, grid in the United Kingdom can absolutely be a catalyst, just like we see elsewhere in other markets.” – Derrick emphasized.
