BlueFloat Energy was honored to participate in the “Realizing Floating Offshore Wind in Taiwan” forum, co-hosted by the WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO) and the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) today. Our CEO, Carlos Martin Rivals, delivered a keynote speech and engaged in discussions with government officials, including Director Chung-Hsien Chen from the Energy Administration MOEA, as well as think tanks and industry peers. The focus was on how Taiwan can lead the development of floating offshore wind power in the Asia-Pacific region.

BlueFloat Energy has long recognized the potential of floating offshore wind in Taiwan and has been developing our Winds of September floating project since 2021. We have secured the final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval earlier this year and successfully deployed a floating LiDAR in March 2023, making us the first developer to collect Metocean data across five seasons in the Hsinchu area.

As of June 14, Taiwan has installed 319 bottom-fixed turbines with a capacity of 2.57GW. Carlos Martin Rivals stated that 2024 will be a pivotal year for floating offshore wind development for Taiwan. It is time to move forward to the next step! We eagerly anticipate the tender announcement of the floating Demonstration Project by Q3 2024, which will allow developers to secure the weather window in 2025 for site investigations.

As a leading global developer of floating offshore wind power, BlueFloat Energy believes that Taiwan’s journey towards net-zero goal must be a collective effort. We will continue to prepare for the upcoming bid and look forward to bringing innovation to this project, demonstrating to both the Taiwanese public and private sectors how to transition floating wind power into the commercial phase.
