As Country Manager at BlueFloat Energy, Javier Monfort is responsible for project development in the Iberian Region, with a special focus on stakeholder management and project permitting.
Javier has worked in energy sector for more than 15 years in a wide range of technologies, including wind, solar PV, solar CSP, biomass and CCGT. He has developed projects in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Morocco, UAE, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Singapore totalling more than 1,5GW with an aggregated investment in excess of $2B.
Prior to joining BlueFloat Energy, Javier served as the Origination & Strategy Director at AAGES, an international development vehicle of the Canadian utility Algonquin Power, promoting a renewable energy portfolio in Spain and Colombia, as well as securing PPAs for the Colombian assets. Before joining AAGES, Javier worked at Abengoa as a Director at the Concessions Department, leading international tenders, securing long-term PPAs for Cerro Dominador, the first hybrid CSP and solar PV plant in Latin America, and for the Combined Cycle Norte III project in Mexico, among others.
Javier also worked as Business Development Manager at Sunedison in Chile, where he was part of the team that closed the 1st private PPA in Latin America for a utility-scale Solar PV project «Amanecer Solar» and developed the first solar merchant plant.
Javier holds an MBA (focused on energy industry) from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and a MSc. in Industrial Engineering from UPC-ETSEIB (Barcelona). Javier also completed a course on particle accelerators at JUAS-CERN accelerator School.
