In early 2022, BlueFloat Energy and its partners secured three seabed leases (for a total capacity of up to 3 GW) in the Scotwind leasing round, the world’s largest commercial round for floating offshore wind. Additionally, in 2023, the BlueFloat Energy and Renantis Partnership in the UK has signed seabed exclusivity rights to develop two 99 MW projects under the innovation arm of Crown Estate Scotland´s INTOG auction process. Our Scotwind success is the result of a sound strategy based on three pillars: one of the strongest development teams in the floating wind market, reputed local partners that complement our skills with strong experience in local development, and a global perspective. Our five projects are a breaking new ground in putting large-scale floating wind technology on the map while furthering Scotland’s target to reach net zero emissions by 2045. Beyond Scotland, we are developing two floating wind projects of 1 GW in Wales and South – West England.
In France, our consortium with Sumitomo Corporation and Akuo has prequalified for the 6th offshore wind tender off the French Mediterranean coast (AO6); the two projects, with 250MW of planned capacity each, represent a unique opportunity to achieve France’s recently announced 40GW target of offshore wind power by 2050.
We have pioneered floating offshore wind in Spain where we have been working with Sener since nearly 3 years engaging with local stakeholders, undertaking technical studies and championing a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework. In Italy, we have developed with Renantis the largest and most advanced project pipeline in the country, with 6 projects across 3 regions – totalling 5.6 GW- that have secured sire control and grid connection solution.
We were early movers in Australia, New Zealand and Colombia, demonstrating our commitment to take a leading and proactive role in developing new markets for the global offshore wind industry.
In 2023 we announced our market entry in Portugal with Greenvolt and in the Phillippines. Starting in early-stage development, we prioritize stakeholder engagement to ensure the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of our projects.
Through our engineers who bring an unparalleled experience in floating platform design, we have honed a comprehensive and sophisticated site-specific technology selection process that guarantees a higher potential for success.
We have extensive knowledge, based on first-hand experience, of the complexities of platform-turbine interaction, a mission-critical item that maximizes project production and value.
We design supply chain plans for floating offshore wind projects, which, combined with fabrication and O&M, anchor our insight into the trade-offs between cost, risk, and local content.
We perform comprehensive site characterization to thoroughly understand site conditions, including gathering intel on significant yet often overlooked issues, which improves serviceability, performance, and project economics.
We have a strong investment acumen and a good understanding of the key aspects that are critical for securing bank financing for floating offshore wind projects, and we prioritize these aspects throughout all phases of offshore wind project development.
We strategically align with our local partners to ensure a transparent approach to project development with an early and open engagement with key stakeholders, including local communities, townhalls, associations, NGOs, tourist industry and fishermen.
Help us take offshore wind to new depths as we foster the global energy transition.
